If Only by A.J. Pine

Synopsis
Sometimes it takes crossing an ocean to figure out where you belong.

It's been two years since twenty-year-old Jordan had a boyfriend—which means it's been forever since she, well, you know. But now she’s off to spend her junior year in Aberdeen, Scotland, the perfect place to stop waiting for Mr. Right and just enjoy Mr. Right Now.

Sexy, sweet (and possible player) Griffin may be her perfect, no-strings-attached match. He’s fun, gorgeous, and makes her laugh. So why can’t she stop thinking about Noah who, minutes after being trapped together outside the train’s loo, kisses Jordan like she’s never been kissed before? Never mind his impossible blue eyes, his weathered, annotated copy of The Great Gatsby (total English-major porn)…oh, and his girlfriend.

Jordan knows everything this year has an expiration date. Aberdeen is supposed to be about fun rather than waiting for life to happen. But E. M. Forster, Shakespeare, and mistletoe on Valentine’s Day make her reconsider what love is and how far she’s willing to go for the right guy.

Hmmm... If Only was extremely frustrating for me. Not a fan and I don't know if I will ever pick up another A.J. Pine book. It wasn't terrible however there were major parts of the story I just couldn't get over.
~Spoiler Free Review~

Writing: I struggled here. I never was able to really emerge myself into Pine's writing style. It seemed to be a very juvenile style which would be fine if it were a Yound Adult, but this would definitely be a New Adult classification. Just wasn't feeling it...

World: There is literally no world building here besides a dorm room with paper thin walls, a school with classrooms (go figure), and a bar. Period.

Characters: The majority of this book is character driven, which is great except when you don't like the characters. I hate to be hard on a book but I think all three main characters would go in my Most-Hated-Book-Characters-of-All-Time. Jordan was weak and codependent. The only thing I liked about Griffin was that he was from Minnesota (REPRESENT). And don't get me started on Noah, gag...

Plot: Girl goes abroad. Girl meets boy, girl meets another boy, queue insta-love now, and BOOM! S*** hits the fan because of sheer stupidity and lack of communication, which goes on for the entire book.

Overall, should probably be a one star book but I only give those to books I don't finish. WHICH would have been the case for this book if I wasn't dead set on reviewing the ARC I received. I personally wouldn't recommend this book but if you are someone who loves a girl with weaknesses for stupid boys in far away lands then you will LOVE this. No, for real, don't let me discourage you if this sounds like something you would like as it has a pretty high rating thus far.
It was okay?

Friday Reads!

TGIF! I am SO sorry I have been MIA this week. Had a big interview and went through the whole job offer thing which can be so time consuming and exhausting.

As for this weekend I have a little trip planned with my pare so I'm not sure how much reading I will get done but here is what I'm going to try to get a good chunk out of:

1) The Five Love Languages (singles edition) By: Gary Chapman - Standalone
2) If Only ARC By: A.J. Pine - Standalone
3) The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest By: Stieg Larsson - Third book in the Millennium Trilogy
Taking out the pages I have already read the page count comes to:
3 books = 748 pages in total.
