Thursday Tag - Ultimate Book Tag!

Tag Time! This was originally created by the ladies at Chapter Chicks. If you do this tag please leave your link in the comment below so I can visit and read your answers and get to know you more too! So, let's get started, The Ultimate Book Tag: 

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?
Not usually however if I am in the car I am probably listening to an Audible book. 

2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
I'm on a Patrick Ness kick lately, love his creativity... nothing like it. 

3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.
For real?! Harry Potter hands down: 
     Best story ever about amazing friendships
     Made me feel every humanly emotion possible
     Magical Boarding School, period. 

4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is it in (besides books…)?
No book bag anymore, my university days are behind me, thank goodness! My purses vary but no matter what the bag, it has to fit my kindle!

5. Do you smell your books?
Brand new books? My old classics? Never... 

 6. Books with or without little illustrations?
Either or, doesn't matter to me. I read books no matter what form they come in. 

7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?
Character driven books. There are so many books that have zero plot and surrounds just a couple characters and I used to think those worked. Now I am so much more about beautiful visualizations and world building. 

8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!
As a child, whenever I saw a train sitting idle, I would seriously consider hopping on it and wait for it to take me away so I could be a boxcar child... 

9. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?
Mind Games by Kiersten White
Hardcover, 237 pages

10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
Paperback, 15th Anniversary Edition, 870 pages

11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?
Maybe someday, but no time as of now. Just a journal full of plot ideas. 

12. When did you get into reading?
Hard to say. My mother always read to me growing up so since I can remember I have loved books. I think the first books I REALLY remember: 
     Matilda by Roald Dahl 
     Charlotte's Web by E.B. White 
     The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett 
     The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein 

13. What is your favorite classic book?
Gone with the Wind without a doubt... 

14. In school was your best subject Language Arts/English?
I wasn't bad at it, but (surprise) I'm a Chemist & Engineer so my best subject was definitely the sciences!

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?
Take it graciously and then exchange it or donate it to someone I know will enjoy it. 

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
I really enjoyed the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins. This is similar to Harry Potter but it's pretty sweet coming from a girl lead. 

17. What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while blogging?
Misspelling... thank God for spell check! Sometimes I get so excited and I can't type as fast as my mind is working so spell check is a necessity for blogging!!!

18. What is your favorite word?
     Elixir.
     Demur. 
     Sumptuous.
     Touché.

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?
Self proclaimed Nerd (or geek). 

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?
Vampires, I like the dark mystery. 

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?
Um... haven't read too much of either, but I think I would enjoy Angels more. 

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?
Werewolves, I feel that books around Spirits are spookier and I don't do scary... 

23. Zombies or Vampires?
Zombies since I've already saved the Vampires with question 20.

 24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?
Neither... 
Forbidden love out of the two, there are TOO MANY love triangles in the world already. 

25. AND FINALLY: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?
Action packed any day!!!

Thursday Tags - TMI Tag!

I've been seeing this tag going around the YouTube community and thought it was a cute way to get to know the person on the other side of the screen. I found the list of questions from LittleMissNerdyBookworm. So, here it is, The Too Much Information Tag: 

1: What are you wearing? 
Jeans, sweater, scarf. My usual winter attire.  

2: Ever been in love?
Once, my junior year of college. Young first love. Always ends in heartbreak... 

3: Ever had a terrible breakup? 
Yes... too many, and I have suppressed them from my memory to never bring into the light of day again! 

4: How tall are you?
I am just past 5'10" and all leg! 

5: How much do you weigh?
A woman never tells! ;)

6: Any tattoos? 
Nothing, yet... I almost gave in and got one in February with my Bestie, but I chickened out! And of course, hers look awesome! I'm so jealous...

7: Any piercings?
Just the usual ear piercings. I've always wanted my nose pierced but I feel like I'm getting too old to rock it. What do you think, 26? Too old?

8: OTP?
One True Pairing... Hmmm. I guess Ron & Hermoine but that is totally predictable coming from me. I just finished The Night Circus so part of me wants to say Marcus and Celia. 

9: Favorite Show?
I'm not much of a TV person since, obviously, I always have my nose in a book. If I do watch anything though it is more than likely Family Guy/South Park/Tosh.O/The Big Bang Theory/Modern Family. 

10: Favorite bands?
I honestly listen to a little of everything: Imagine Dragons, Luke Bryan, Bastille, Florence + The Machine, Cider Sky, Cher Lloyd, Drake, Kelly Rowland, Blake Shelton, Alex & Sierra...

Total Plug: I really enjoy listening to anything my Brother makes. He is graduating high school this year and was recently accepted into a prestigious private music school for music production. I'm totally biased but I think he's pretty awesome. 

11: Something you miss? 
Being debt free... College loans are a B****!

12: Favorite song?
Right now, I REALLY hate to admit this, but I'm loving Talk Dirty To Me... It's a terribly dirty song but it just makes me want to dance. Ugh... I hate you Jason Derulo! 

13: How old are you? 
I turned 26 last November... I'm official in my late twenties = quarter life crisis! 

14: Zodiac sign?
Sagittarius

15: Quality you look for in a partner?
Intelligent & Funny! I love to laugh and I enjoy someone who is clever. 

16: Favorite Quote?
I have three that I have always loved:

Male: Gerald Butler (The Ugly Truth is one of my favorite movies ever...)

This changes for me every few years, currently it's Navy or Tiffany Blue. 

19: Loud music or soft?
Soft unless I'm working out. 

20: Where do you go when you’re sad?
Home! I grew up in the woods in a small country town (more like a village). I like to go there to escape city life and decompress. to remind myself of what is truly important in life. I love my family and going home is always a good reset. 

21: How long does it take you to shower? 
Depends, Morning showers only take me 15 minutes. Night showers though always take me longer, especially after I work out. Probably closer to 25 minutes. 

22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? 
If I'm running late, only 15 minutes.
If I'm actually going to try... 30 minutes+ depending on what I do with my hair. 

23: Ever been in a physical fight? 

Once, when I was 13! Long story short, I was in my "Sex Education" class and after class everyone was always super immature about it. One of the bullies came up to me and started yelling "PENIS PENIS PENIS" in my face because I was one of the more conservative ones and he thought it would be funny to get a reaction out of me. So I gave him one, I punched him... Got suspended! Mom was embarrassed, Dad was pretty proud. 

24: Turn on?
Physical: Hands/Eyes
Emotional: Loves his Mom! Melts my heart...

25: Turn off?
Physical: Short... don't shoot me, I'm an Amazon woman! :/
Emotional: Afraid of commitment and/or religion of any kind.

26: The reason I joined Blogspot?
Honestly, just wanted a place to document what I read and my thoughts. More of a reading diary if you will. I figured I would just put it out there and if anyone else found it interesting then they were more than welcome to come along for the ride!

Disappointing the people I love.

Always... so many great book boys! 
Legit crush? Nah, I'm single and loving it!

Last weekend, my brother, on the top of his head.

Couple weeks ago? Probably at work. 

42: Favorite flavor of sweet?
Like sweet flavor? I guess anything coconut or blue raspberry, or in other-words anything that changes my mouth blue.

43: What instruments do you play? 
I played the flute for five years. 

44: Favorite piece of jewelry? 
I received an initial necklace from Tiffany's from my parents when I graduated from college and I cherish it. 

45: Last sport you played?
Probably basketball. I loved basketball growing up and (fun fact) was actually recruited to play college ball. 

46: Last song you sang?

47: Favorite pick-up line? 
Boy: "Hey girl, feel my sweater. You know what it's made of?"

Thursday Tags - Reading Habits!

Reading habits tag originally done by TheBookJazz I believe. 

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

My bed. I like to prop myself up with many pillows and surround myself in a fluffy comforter which usually means the dog will be curled up in there somewhere too.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Generally whatever is handy but I recently bought two new bookmarks that I love and those have been consistently making the rounds.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I can only stop at a random spot if I’m about to fall asleep (or already have). I almost always end at the end of a chapter or section.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

I drink a lot while reading. Almost always some flavored water or coffee but I have been known to pop open some wine if it’s been a rough day.

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Absolute silence, generally. Unless I’m in a coffee shop…

6. One book at a time or several at once?

Several… it’s bad. Last week I had five books going at once, now I’m down to three. I always have three going as I will have one hard copy, one kindle book, and one audible book going on at all times. Then sometimes a rando will sneak in there somewhere!

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Everywhere. Currently, with it being the dead of winter in Minnesota I pretty much stick to home or the coffee shop but once it warms up I’ll read anywhere & everywhere.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

I never read out loud however I do always have an Audible book going on so that is being read to me out loud.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

What?! This would be a hell-to-the-no.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Hold one while I have a momentary panic attack… I wouldn’t dream of it.

11. Do you write in your books?

No! I used to when I was younger. Whenever I loaned a book out to someone they would write their name in the front cover so it’s kind of cool looking back now and seeing which ones were popular with my friends. Some of those books REALLY got around! ;)
