The Liebster Blog Award

Thank you Karolina from Bookshelf Reflections for nominating me for the Liebster Blog Award! This sounds like a fun nomination. I love being a part of the blog community and I humbly accept the nomination!

What is the Liebster Blog Award you ask? It is a German award which is now translated as The Beloved & Dearest Blog Award. This award is currently open for nomination to eligible blogs with quality content and a follower count less than 200 to bring more recognition to some of the smaller and newer blogs. It is up to the nominee to choose whether one wants to accept the nomination and the award or to decline it.

Award Rules: Should the nominee choose to accept their nomination they have to follow a set of guidelines in order to receive their award. First, the nominee must share 11 facts about themselves, then answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated them, and lastly ask 11 questions which the bloggers being further nominated by them are to answer. The number of nominations to follow may vary from 5 to 11 blogs, all of which have to be meeting the nomination criteria. So let’s get on with it shall we
11 Facts About Me:

1. I am a bit of a science nerd. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and Environmental Engineering. I am currently finishing up another degree in Chemical Engineering and I dream of having a secret laboratory in my house someday…

2. I live in the states and wish I could move somewhere warm as it is February and I have declared home in the cold & snowy state of Minnesota. However, I will say that the summers here are to die for!

3. I like going to movies by myself… I know, weird!

4. Besides collecting books I love makeup. I used to work for Lancôme and it was consequently the catalyst of an uncontrollable makeup obsession.

5. I was once a bible camp counselor. It’s amazing how many lives you can touch in one summer and how much touching those lives adds more to your own.

6. I have two younger brothers. There is quite an age gap as I’m the oldest and they are eight and ten years younger than I. We get along wonderfully and I love them with all my heart.

7. I grew up surrounded by books. My mom has instilled a love for books with all of her children. I think the moment I fell in love with reading was in third grade when my teacher stated reading us the Boxcar Children Series. After that, Harry Potter pretty much sealed my love of books for life.

8. I shoot bow, yes like Katniss Everdeen! I’ve been shooting since I was a little girl as my father is an avid archery hunter and has been all his life. It’s his passion and he has passed that on to all three of his children.

9. I love Darkside Skittles. Period.

10. I am a bit of a hermit, especially in the winter. My idea of a perfect weekend involves coffee, a good book, and a large, warm, fluffy blanket. Heaven on Earth…

11. I used to be a fitness instructor. Zumba and Aqua Zumba classes were my favorite to teach. If you can find the right instructor it is a blast! Seriously, if you haven’t tried Zumba you HAVE TO! Go, stop reading this and go right now!

11 Questions from Karolina:

1. What prompted you to start blogging?
As with many book bloggers, I obviously love books. I have been an avid book-tube subscriber for years and absolutely adore goodreads. One day I just kinda thought “ah, what the hell!” I never started TheDailyProphet with the intention that anyone would find it interesting. It was more of a place to put my thoughts, to document books I have read, and how I felt about them. When you read a lot of books you tend to blend some of them together with time. It was more of a way for me to archive my personal reading journey. A book diary if you will.

2. If you could choose to marry any character out of any book you read whom would you choose and why?
Oh wow, just one?! Kidding… no but seriously, ONE?!

Realistically with the chance it could actually work, I would choose Cameron from the Wait for You series by J.Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout). I think he is a well-developed character and I have a mega book crush on him.

If I could marry ANYONE, regardless of if I think we could work or not, I would choose Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. Obviously there is a little bit of time gap and he is extremely hard-headed but I love him nonetheless. We would probably end up divorced though... I have a feeling we would fight a lot!

3. What is the weirdest thing you have ever done?
When I was in fifth grade my basketball team was in a tournament, you know the ones that last a whole Saturday? It was our last game and we were trying to place. Picture this, fourth quarter, down by one, seconds left, my team has the ball out of bounce under our basket. Once the ball gets put into play I fall onto all fours and baaaah-ed like a sheep to distract the other team. It worked… but unfortunately it also distracted my team and we lost.

What can I say? I was a handful as a child…

4. What is your favourite book series and why?
This is TheDailyProphet Blog, Um… Harry Potter of course!!! I was similar in age as Harry Potter as every book came out and those books will always hold a place in my heart. You know how certain scents can bring you back to a certain person or time in your life? Certain words and chapters in the Harry Potter series do the same for me.

5. What is the last book you cried over?
Allegiant… unlike the majority of the book community, I enjoyed all three books. I wouldn’t say I liked the ending of the series, but I respected it, I understood it. It was a good ending for me personally, even if I sobbed like a baby.

6. Which book would you like to give a different ending to than the author intended? What would it be?
This is a hard one… probably The Line by J.D. Horn. This book had the right idea but it was not executed right in my opinion. Now I may be crazy because some people LOVE this book. I realize it is the first in a series so the ending isn't the ending but ugh... I just didn't get the feels like everyone else. I feel left out!

7. Which author (living or dead) would you like to meet given the chance?
This is easy! I would like to meet Margret Mitchell. Gone with the Wind is one of my all-time favorite books and it was SUPPOSED to have a sequel. Instead we are left with a “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn” cliff hanger!!! Mitchell was in the middle of writing the sequel when she tragically died at the age of 48. She was run over by a speeding drunk driver. I would love to meet her and hear how Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butlers love story plays out.

Side note: there is a sequel, Scarlett, which was written by Alexandra Ripley and was first published in 1992 but it is not the intended sequel from Mitchell herself.

8. You are flying over the ocean with your whole library in tow. The plane crashes but you can save three books. Quick! Which ones will it be?
THIS SOUNDS TERRIBLE!!!
     1) Harry Potter box set – Yes that may be cheating but I keep them in the original box so it would count as one grab.
     2) My vintage copy of Gone with the Wind.
     3) Lastly, I guess my signed copy of Allegiant.

9. Two characters from different books are in a cage-fight. Who are they and who would win?
The Crooked Man from the Book of Lost Things in one corner and Saaren from the Blood of Eden Trilogy in the other.

Tough call for the win… The Crooked Man has magic and is living off of children’s souls whereas Saaren is a twisted blood thirsty (pun intended) vampire. Both characters give me goose bumps and creep me out. I would like them to take out each other but I’m going to go with Saaren to take the victory but only because I think he is crazier and I want to see what happens in the third book that comes out later this year… call me selfish!

10. Say you never fell under the spell of reading. What would you being right now?
Well if I wasn’t reading I would have a lot more time on my hands. I suppose I would pick up a different hobby. I used to paint a lot and I haven’t done that in years so probably something creative like that.

11. You can be anyone you want. Living person or fictional character. Who would you be and why?
Obviously I want to be someone with a happy ending.  It wouldn’t hurt if I also had some kind of special power to boot or was rich. All dystopian characters have had a rough life so that throws out those characters. Most contemporaries and new adult novels involve someone who has some kind of damage or baggage, no thank you. And I will not even touch any characters in the erotica genre… That narrows it down quite a bit.

Decisions, decisions… I’m going to be predictable and go with Hermoine Granger. She has had some hard moments throughout her life but she is a strong and independent female character who can kick ass if she has to, she marries Ron Weasly (I mean c’mon…), her best friend is THEE Harry Potter, and she can do magic? Where do I sign?!

    1. Creative, yes, we'll go with that! ;)

Harry Potter Fangirl moment, we're bonded for life!!!

Gone with the Wind is tough. Is it a huge book? Yes. Is it worth it? I think so. If you enjoy reading anything involving war, stressful romances, and the struggles surrounding life then you will love this! It's a tough-y but a goody!
